Sage matters more to the UK mandate than any other software company. In HMRC's own survey of 800 small and medium-sized businesses, published in March 2026, 48% used Sage. Whatever Sage ships, and when, decides how hard 2029 is for roughly half of UK SMEs.
This guide sets out what each Sage product supports today, what Sage has said in public, and what you can do if you cannot wait. Every claim is dated, because this will change. We checked Sage's documentation, release notes and the OpenPeppol registers on 19 October 2026.
Sage product by product
| Product | UK Peppol today | What exists elsewhere | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sage 50 Accounts (UK) | No native support found | France: e-invoicing built in, no extra cost | No UK help article on Peppol or e-invoicing |
| Sage 200 Standard and Professional | No native support found | None documented | Third-party connectors exist. Help covers emailed PDF invoices only |
| Sage Intacct | No UK feature | Germany 2025 R4, France 2026 R3 | UK AP Automation captures invoices, not Peppol |
| Sage X3 | UK not covered | France and Spain via Sage Network, Belgium via external Peppol solution | X3 e-invoicing pack announcements cover France |
| Sage Accounting (cloud) | No UK feature found | France: built in | Sage UK expects an automatic update for cloud products |
The pattern is clear. Sage has built e-invoicing where a mandate is already live, starting with France, and not yet where it is three years away.
What Sage has built in other countries
The UK picture looks thin, but the capability exists inside Sage.
- Sage is a certified Peppol access point. OpenPeppol's register of certified service providers lists Sage Global Services Ltd, UK based, as access point certified. Sage has not announced a UK product built on it.
- France. Sage is registered as an approved platform (plateforme agréée) for the French mandate. Sage France says the platform is "already integrated into all Sage software, at no extra cost", naming Sage 50, Sage 100, Sage Intacct, Sage Active and Sage FRP 1000.
- Belgium. Sage Belgium says all of its invoicing software is already connected to Peppol. Sage X3's own documentation for Belgium describes an external solution for inbound Peppol, so check the specific product.
- Germany. Sage Intacct added German e-invoicing in release 2025 R4, using the ZUGFeRD format of a PDF with embedded XML.
- Singapore. Sage 300 is Peppol-ready for the InvoiceNow network, working through a third-party access point.
The Sage Network developer documentation lists only French routes today and says "the list of access points will grow as we add additional routes such as the peppol for cross border connections."
What Sage has said about the UK
Sage has commented on the policy. It has not committed to a UK product date.
- November 2025, Budget blog. "For businesses using cloud accounting software, this will be an automated feature update that will arrive well ahead of the deadline." This is a general statement about cloud software, not a dated Sage product commitment.
- 2025, policy paper on e-invoicing. "ERPs like Sage will move to embedding e-invoicing… removing the cost to comply. For example Sage will integrate e-invoicing compliance into all its solutions in France at no extra cost."
- September 2026, policy report. HMRC's choice of Peppol "has given software providers the clarity to begin technical planning, but important questions remain open." Sage asked for the roadmap to set out final technical standards, the design of Peppol accreditation, and how businesses will be identified on the network.
- Ireland, community forum, mid 2026. A Sage UK and Ireland staff reply said Sage could not yet confirm whether structured e-invoicing would be included in existing subscriptions, or the timelines.
Reading those together: Sage intends to build it, has the network infrastructure, and is waiting for the same answers as everyone else. Those answers are due in the Budget 2026 roadmap. The France precedent, built into existing products at no extra cost, is the most useful guide to what Sage may do in the UK.
The on-premise question
Sage's "automated feature update" line is about cloud software. Many UK mid-market businesses run Sage 200 Professional on their own servers, or Sage 50 on a desktop several versions behind. Those installations only get new features when they are upgraded, and some carry customisations that make upgrades a project in their own right.
If that describes your setup, plan for one of two things before 2029: an upgrade to whichever version Sage ships with UK e-invoicing, or a connector that works with the version you have. Both take time to test. Neither should be left to early 2029.
Your options today
1. Wait for Sage
Reasonable for most Sage 50 and Sage Accounting users with no customer asking for Peppol yet. Use the time to fix your data (see below). Revisit after the roadmap on 28 October 2026 and after Sage's next UK announcement.
2. Use a third-party connector
Needed now if you supply NHS Supply Chain, which already requires its suppliers to invoice over Peppol, or if a large customer is asking. Connectors take invoices out of Sage, convert them to Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 and send them through an access point. The main patterns:
| Pattern | How it works | Fits |
|---|---|---|
| Folder or CSV export | Sage exports invoices to a folder, the connector picks them up | Sage 50, older Sage 200 versions |
| Desktop connector | A service on your server reads the Sage database directly | Sage 50 and Sage 200 on-premise |
| Sage 200 API | The connector calls the Sage 200 REST API | Sage 200 Standard, and Professional from Spring 2018 with partner setup |
| Inbound posting | Received Peppol invoices are posted to the purchase ledger | Any, if the connector supports receiving |
Vendors on the Sage UK Marketplace and elsewhere advertise Sage 50 and Sage 200 Peppol connectors, with published prices from around £19 a month for low volumes. Some describe themselves as Peppol access points but do not appear under that name on OpenPeppol's register, which usually means they resell another provider's access point. That is fine, but ask whose it is.
3. Move to a system with Peppol built in
Not worth doing for the mandate alone. If you are already reviewing your finance system, it is a fair question to include. See the comparison below.
Questions to ask a Sage connector provider
- Which access point do you use, and is it on OpenPeppol's certified list?
- Which Sage versions are supported? Name your version and get a yes or no.
- Do you send credit notes as well as invoices? A credit note is a separate Peppol document type. Some connectors only do invoices.
- Can you receive, and post into the purchase ledger? The first UK obligation may be to receive. See our roadmap guide.
- What happens when an invoice fails validation? You want the error back in front of the person who raised the invoice, not in a portal nobody checks.
- Will you support PINT UK, and by when? The UK specification is still in draft.
- Can we take our Peppol ID with us if we leave? Ask how migration works before you register.

Get your Sage data ready now
This work pays off whichever route you choose, and it is the part most businesses leave too late.
- Customer VAT numbers. Peppol routes UK businesses on their VAT number (scheme 9932) or a GS1 GLN (scheme 0088). Every customer record without a valid VAT number will fail at routing. Do not put a Companies House number in the VAT field.
- Customer order numbers. Every Peppol invoice must carry a buyer reference or purchase order reference. If your team keys the customer's PO number into the order or invoice inconsistently, fix the process now. This is the field the customer's system matches on.
- VAT codes per line. Zero-rated, exempt and reverse charge lines need the right category code. Check that your Sage tax codes map cleanly.
- Every invoice route. List invoices raised outside Sage: from portals, a billing tool, or self-billing by customers. Each needs a structured route.
Other UK finance systems

The orders behind the invoices
E-invoicing fixes the format of the invoice. It does nothing for the purchase orders the invoice is matched against, because a PO creates no VAT event and sits outside the mandate. For most Sage users those orders still arrive as PDFs and emails and are keyed into Sage by hand, and the customer's PO number is exactly the field that gets mistyped.
OrderSync reads purchase orders from email, PDF, spreadsheets and EDI and creates the sales order in your ERP, including Sage 50, Sage Intacct and Sage X3, with the PO reference captured exactly as the customer sent it. That is the reference your Peppol invoice will need to quote. We set out the wider gap in Peppol solved the invoice, nobody solved the order.
