What Is Intelligent Document Processing?

Intelligent document processing (IDP) uses AI to classify, extract and route business documents. Instead of someone reading each attachment to work out what it is and what matters in it, the software does it in seconds and hands people only the documents that need a decision.

This tool shows the classification step. Once a document is identified, the PO extractor and the invoice extractor pull out the full detail. EDI files are text, not PDFs: read those in the EDI viewer.

  • Invoices: invoice numbers, amounts, payment terms, vendor details.

What document types can this detect?

Purchase orders, invoices, packing slips, bills of lading, advance ship notices, credit memos, quotes and general correspondence. It classifies by the content and layout of the PDF, not the file name.

Which file types can I upload?

PDF files up to 5 MB, digital or scanned. For EDI files use the EDI viewer, and for order emails use the email order parser.

Why does document type detection matter?

When dozens of documents arrive by email every day, knowing which are purchase orders, which are invoices and which are shipping paperwork decides where each one goes next. Detecting the type is the first step in routing them without someone opening every attachment.

Is there a limit?

Yes. Three successful runs a day per network, shared with the PO, invoice and email extractors and resetting at midnight UTC. A failed detection or a rejected file does not count, and the counter under the tool shows what you have left. The sample results do not use one.

What happens to my PDF?

It is sent to OrderSync and read by an AI model to produce the result. The file is not kept after the result is returned; we log the file size and your IP address to enforce the daily limit.
