Question 1 of 6

Has a retail buyer or trading partner asked you to become EDI-capable?

What EDI Readiness Means

EDI (electronic data interchange) moves orders, ship notices and invoices between your system and your trading partner's in a standard format. Being ready means two things: a partner's orders have somewhere to land, and your ship notices and invoices can go back without anyone retyping them.

Once you know where you stand, see what a sample 850 looks like in the EDI Inspector, read the EDI guides for each transaction, or work out the payback with the EDI ROI calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the EDI readiness assessment measure?

Two things, scored separately. Need: how soon EDI is required, from whether a buyer has asked, your order volume, your error rate and your industry. Readiness: whether you have a system for EDI documents to flow into and out of, such as an ERP or accounting system and a digital order process.

Why are need and readiness separate scores?

A deadline from a retailer makes EDI urgent, but it does not give you a system for the orders to land in. Without an ERP or accounting system, EDI orders still get keyed by hand, so a business can have high need and low readiness at the same time.

Which EDI documents will a retailer ask for first?

Most retail suppliers start with the 850 purchase order, the 856 advance ship notice and the 810 invoice, plus a 997 functional acknowledgment for each. Some retailers also want the 855 PO acknowledgment or the 846 inventory report; their EDI guide lists what is required.

Do I have to give my email to see the result?

No. Both scores, the verdict and your first next steps show as soon as you answer the last question, and you can copy, print or share them. The full report (a 30/60/90-day plan, the EDI documents a retailer will ask for, questions for your buyer and providers, and pitfalls at your stage) is an optional PDF we send when you give an email.

Are my answers stored?

The assessment runs in your browser and your answers stay in the page address so you can share the result. Nothing is sent to OrderSync unless you ask for the full report, which sends your email address and your six multiple-choice answers so we can email you the report.
