Case Barcodes and the Pack Hierarchy
Each level you sell or ship gets its own GTIN. The consumer unit carries a UPC-A or EAN-13; the inner pack and the case each get a GTIN-14 built from the unit number with a different indicator digit; the pallet gets an SSCC on its label instead of a GTIN. A retailer's 850 orders cases by their GTIN-14 (qualifier UK in the PO1 segment) and your 856 reports them the same way, so the number on the box and the number in the EDI must agree.

The symbol sizes on this page follow the ITF-14 specification table and bearer bar rules in the GS1 General Specifications (sections 5.12.3.2 and 5.3.2.4). The GS1 US guide to barcodes covers which symbol to use where. Work out case numbers with the check digit calculator, print pallet and carton labels with the SSCC label generator, and convert cases to eaches with the unit of measure converter.
GTINs, SSCCs and GLNs must be built from a GS1 Company Prefix licensed to your company by your local GS1 member organisation, such as GS1 US or GS1 UK. Our examples use 0614141, the prefix GS1 uses in its own documentation. OrderSync builds these tools independently of GS1.
