About This 820 Sample
Cash application lives in the 820. BPR gives the payment, TRN the trace number that matches the bank deposit, and each RMR the invoice it pays. Any gap between invoiced and paid should have an ADX with a reason code; if it does not, you have a short payment to chase.
Grocery and big-box retailers send deductions this way. Match each one to your ASN and delivery records before you accept it.
For every segment the standard allows and how retailers use them, read the EDI 820 guide. To check a file of your own, paste it into the EDI Inspector, or browse all 22 EDI sample files.
